The federal government of Nigeria has canceled visas for 27 Indians and placing 63 Nigerians of Persons of Interests for not complying with COVID-19 testing protocols and mandatory arrival quarantines for international travelers from India, Brazil, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates where the new but deadly variant of Corona virus is spreading.
Mr Boss Mustapha, the Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 and the Secretary of the federal Government, announced the action against passengers in a press statement released on Sunday.
He said the defaulters entered Nigeria between 8-15 May 2021 via Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.
In a radical departure from simply issuing the perpetrators’ passport numbers, the federal government publishes the names alongside the passport numbers of violators.
The list published by the PSC found that 90 people from Nigeria and India had violated health regulations after arriving in Nigeria from a restricted country.

Mustapha said that in addition to the sanctions imposed on violators, the federal government will take other steps, including deactivating passports and prosecuting foreign and Nigerian offenders under 2021 Health Protection Regulations.
