South African Elon Musk is now the richest person in the world as his $185 billion fortune passes that of Jeff Bezos’ $184 billion.
He is officially the richest person in the world after his wealth surpassed that of Jeff Bezos.
Musk new position as the world richest person was helped by an increase in Tesla’s share price on Thursday, January 7.
Jeff Bezos had been the world’s richest person since 2017 until the increase in the Tesla’s shares pushes Musk to overtake him.
The Tesla and SpaceX business mogul is now worth a whopping $185 billion, compared to Amazon’s magnate Bezos’ still highly enviable net worth of $184 billion.
The South African Must has seen his wealth increase tremendously since the beginning of 2020 – when he was worth around jusy $27 billion. At this point, he was only within the top 50 richest people in the world.
The electric car maker, Tesla’s share price during this period has increased several folds adding more than $150 billion (around £110 billion) to Musk net worth.
About 75 percent or three-quarters of his wealth is comprised of Tesla shares.
The electric car maker Tesla’s shares were recently trading at about $790, up by increase of over 4% in trading Thursday. The company’s market value has grown to $737.6 billion.
Elon Musk’s SpaceX company also had a very successful outing in 2020, launching 26 missions, breaking its previous 2018 calendar-year record of 21.
