Singer Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, has said that Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun gave him N2 million after he complained about the state’s poor road networks.
In a viral video on social media, the 30-year-old rapper stated, “Oga (Dapo Abiodun) ti te two million naira, won ni Dapo ni gbogbo ona ni oun ma se,” which translates to “the governor has sent two million naira and has promised to repair every road.”
Mr Abiodun has received harsh criticism on social media for the poor condition of several main highways throughout the state, with many netizens labelling them “death traps”.
Peoples Gazette contacted Mr Abiodun and the State Government’s Secretary, Tokunbo Talabi, via WhatsApp for comments on Portable’s statement. While the mails were successfully delivered, neither has responded to the request at the time of writing this report.
Following a series of online calls from netizens, Mr Abiodun has come out to urge the people of the state to be patient with the government during an on-the-spot road inspection in the Ifo Local Government Area on Monday.
“I want to implore our people to be patient with us. We cannot reconstruct all the bad roads in three years,” the governor said. “In fact, no administration can reconstruct all the roads in Ogun State, not even in 8 years,” he added.
“When I assumed office on the 29th of May, 2019, the deficit that we met on assumption of office was such that we began to wonder what the previous administration was doing.”
