Gospel musician Esther Igbekele has opened up on the death of her mother, Late Madam Mary Amope Igbekele, describing her as her “prayer warrior” and a major pillar behind her music ministry.

In a telephone interview with Tribune Church, Igbekele shared that her mother had been ill but was on the road to recovery when death unexpectedly took her.

“My prayer warrior left without saying goodbye. She was sick but almost getting better, yet death took her away,” Igbekele said.

The singer noted that her mother believed in her humble beginnings and was an unwavering supporter of her ministry, particularly during the years when she was raising her children.

“She believed in my humble beginnings and was a great support to my ministry, taking care of my children while they were young to allow me the space to pursue my career,” she explained.

The loss comes at a particularly challenging time for Igbekele, who is currently on a music tour abroad and had been preparing for her birthday celebration scheduled for today, August 16.

On behalf of the family, Igbekele released an official statement announcing the passing of the 71-year-old matriarch, who passed away on August 14.

The family described Madam Mary Amope Igbekele’s passing as a profound loss, stating that her presence, love, wisdom, and motherly care will be deeply missed. They found solace in knowing that she lived a life that touched many and is now resting in the arms of the Lord.

The announcement of her passing has prompted an outpouring of sympathy from fans, friends, and colleagues within the gospel music community.

Music legend and General Overseer of Decross Gospel Mission, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, led the tributes, extending condolences to Igbekele and her family on behalf of himself, his family, and the Decross Gospel Mission community.

Obey praised Igbekele as an exceptionally loving, respectful, and devoted daughter, commending the honour she bestowed upon her mother. He prayed for God’s strength and comfort, assuring her that she is not alone in this time of grief

Veteran gospel musician, Pastor Joseph Adelakun, known as Ayewa, also expressed his sympathies, recognising the significant role that Igbekele’s mother played in her music career and praying for the family’s strength during this challenging time.

Gospel minister, evangelist Bukola Akinade, popularly known as Senwele Jesu, also mourned the deceased, praying that the Holy Spirit would provide comfort and solace to Igbekele and her family

Igbekele also told Tribune Church that details and the burial arrangements would be communicated at a later date, while expressing gratitude for everyone’s calls, messages, love, support, and prayers during this time.
