Niger State Police Command has arrested 139 suspects in connection with unlawful assembly, street violence and other criminal activities in Suleja Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement, saying 64 of the suspects had been arraigned before the court.
According to him, the arrests followed the deployment of the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit by the Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, to restore peace and curb criminal activities in Suleja and its environs.

He said the operation was based on intelligence that led to raids on identified criminal hideouts and black spots in Madalla, Kwata, Bakin-Ruwa, Dikko, Kaduna Road, Sabon-Wuse, Gwazunu and Chaza areas.
Abiodun said the crackdown became necessary following security concerns arising from alleged unlawful and violent rallies as well as activities of criminal gangs in Suleja and surrounding communities.
He said, “The Niger State Police Command has arrested 139 suspects, of which 64 were arraigned. The crackdown is linked to unlawful and violent rally in Suleja.”
The police spokesperson added that the suspects were subjected to screening and investigation, during which some were allegedly found in possession of cannabis, scissors, knives, cutlasses, and four live cartridges.
He assured residents that the command would sustain operations against criminal elements and ensure the safety and security of residents across the state.
