Award-winning Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham, has opened up about how years of hard work, consistency and divine favour have transformed her career, declaring that she no longer feels the need to seek anyone’s approval or compromise her dignity to remain relevant in the movie industry.
Speaking during a recent interview, the box office star reflected on her journey in Nollywood, saying she has reached a stage where she can confidently choose the projects she wants to be associated with and the people she feels comfortable working with.
“I can’t kiss anybody’s ass anymore because God has blessed me with a platform where I can decide who I want to work with,” she said.
The actress explained that the statement was not borne out of pride but from a place of gratitude, noting that the success she enjoys today has given her the independence many actors aspire to attain after years of building their careers.
According to Abraham, she no longer believes in forcing relationships or chasing opportunities at the expense of her self-worth, insisting that she is content working with people who appreciate her craft and share her vision.
“God has blessed me with a platform. I can choose who I want to work with, and I thank God for that,” she added.
She also spoke candidly about the support she enjoys from her husband and fellow actor, Kolawole Ajeyemi, describing him as someone who may not express love in overly romantic ways but has consistently encouraged her to pursue excellence.
“My husband is not romantic,” she said. “But he allows me to be the best version of myself. He allows me to do what brings my acting career to life.”
Abraham revealed that one of the reasons their marriage has remained strong is the level of trust they have built over the years, particularly when it comes to the demands of their profession.
Addressing questions about romantic scenes in movies, the actress disclosed that her husband has never stood in the way of her work, even when a script requires her to kiss another actor.
“He doesn’t have a problem with me kissing on set because he understands that it is my job,” she said, adding that mutual understanding has made it easier for her to fully immerse herself in every role without unnecessary pressure at home.
For Abraham, the ability to make independent career decisions while enjoying unwavering support from her family represents one of the greatest rewards of a journey marked by resilience, sacrifice and faith, as she continues to cement her place among Nollywood’s most successful filmmakers and actresses.
