A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tolu Bankole, has described Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun as the best leader the state has ever produced.
Bankole said the Abiodun administration has transformed Ogun into Nigeria’s industrial hub through visionary policies, fiscal discipline and a calm, inclusive approach to governance.
Speaking during his end-of-year media briefing, Bankole noted that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) rose from ₦100.7 billion in 2021 to ₦146.0 billion in 2023. He added that Ogun also recorded more than 150 per cent growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), increasing from ₦2.9 trillion in 2021 to ₦7.3 trillion in 2024.
He attributed the gains to deliberate revenue reforms and targeted economic policies, pointing out that Ogun’s IGR had stood at about ₦70 billion in 2019 before falling to ₦50.6 billion in 2020. According to him, the sharp rebound since 2021 reflects stronger fiscal management and improved governance.
Beyond the economy, Bankole said the administration has improved the learning environment, rehabilitated schools, recruited teachers, empowered farmers and delivered affordable housing through site-and-service schemes.
He added that Ogun has been strategically positioned as the industrial heartbeat of Nigeria, attracting major manufacturing companies while expanding opportunities in mining, agro-processing and technology. To support this growth, the state has constructed or rehabilitated more than 600 kilometres of roads, including the Denro–Ishashi–Akute corridor and several township roads that have restored access to previously neglected communities.
Bankole also highlighted the state’s sustained peace over the past six years, saying it has strengthened governance and enabled political and community structures to coexist without tension.
According to him, Governor Abiodun has set a new standard for governance in Ogun through prudent resource management, strategic partnerships and long-term planning focused on citizens’ welfare.
“Dapo Abiodun is, without doubt, the best governor Ogun State has ever had. His legacy will stand as a benchmark for good governance, transformational leadership and inclusive development,” he said.
