Progressive governors pass vote of confidence in Tinubu, back 2027 re-election bid
The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has declared full support for President Bola Tinubu, endorsing his Renewed Hope Agenda and backing his re-election in 2027. The announcement was made in Lagos after a crucial meeting of APC governors and party stakeholders.
Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, read the communique, which praised the administration’s economic reforms, security efforts, and development initiatives. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu hosted the gathering, which had 12 other PGF members in attendance.

Senior Lagos officials and APC leaders, including Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, SSG Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, GAC Chairman Tajudeen Olusi, party executives, and members of the State Executive Council, were also present.
Economic and Social Reforms
The PGF said its vote of confidence reflected appreciation for President Tinubu’s “steadfast commitment to stabilising the economy, improving security, and laying foundations for sustainable growth.”
The Forum reviewed the rising cost of living and acknowledged the sacrifices Nigerians are making during the reform period. It praised citizens’ resilience and pledged stronger state-level interventions in food production, support for small businesses, youth employment, and social protection for vulnerable groups.
Governors pledged to work closely with the Federal Government, National Economic Council, and local governments to ensure that economic gains translate into real improvements in people’s lives.
Security and Community Stability
The Forum reviewed the security situation nationwide and commended the improved coordination among federal, state, and local security agencies. It hailed the ongoing reforms in the national security architecture and reaffirmed that protecting lives and property remains a core responsibility of government.
Governors vowed to strengthen local security networks, improve intelligence gathering, support victims of violence, and promote social cohesion, inter-faith harmony, and national unity.
Local Governance and Citizen Engagement
The PGF said effective local governance is key to delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots. It committed to enhancing transparency, accountability, and service delivery in local government administration.
The Forum also agreed to expand citizen engagement through town hall meetings, consultations with community leaders, and dialogue with civil society, youth groups, labour unions, and professional bodies. Listening to citizens and adapting policies based on feedback, it said, is essential to building public trust.

The governors reaffirmed loyalty to the APC leadership and praised ongoing efforts to strengthen internal democracy and party cohesion. They pledged continued support for President Tinubu’s policies and vowed to keep the APC strong and performance-driven.
The Forum expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future and called for collective responsibility in securing peace, unity, and prosperity. It urged Nigerians to remain calm amid security concerns, maintain patience, and continue supporting national reforms.
Appeals from Uzodimma and Sanwo-Olu
Addressing APC stakeholders, Governor Uzodimma urged party members to take the “good message” of the Tinubu administration to the grassroots, stressing that sustained mobilisation is vital for victory beyond 2027.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised President Tinubu’s leadership and declared that he “deserves a second term in 2027.” He thanked APC leaders nationwide for their loyalty to the Renewed Hope Agenda and described Lagos as “the headquarters of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Sanwo-Olu also commended Uzodimma for strengthening the PGF and said the governors’ visit demonstrated unity and commitment to advancing the APC’s national agenda.
