Wizkid greatest afrobeats artist after Fela – Olamide
Nigerian rap star Olamide has stirred excitement and debate across social media after declaring Wizkid the greatest Afrobeats artiste of this generation, second only to the legendary Fela Kuti.
Speaking during an appearance at York University in Toronto, Olamide praised Wizkid’s impact on Afrobeats and highlighted their longtime musical partnership, which dates back to 2011 with collaborations such as “Kana” and tracks on Street OT.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Wizkid — we’ve made so many songs together. You know say after Fela, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artist ever,” Olamide told the cheering audience.
He credited Wizkid with consistently elevating Afrobeats on the global stage, saying his influence and longevity place him at the forefront of the genre’s modern wave.
The rapper’s remarks drew loud applause from students and quickly went viral, sparking renewed debate among music lovers over who truly leads Afrobeats today.
While many fans applauded Olamide’s bold acknowledgment, others disagreed — reigniting the long-running rivalry between supporters of top Afrobeats acts.
