The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture, led by Hon. Waliu Owode, has called on former Commissioner for Agriculture, Adeola Odedina, the Chairman and Secretary of the National Cassava Growers Association, the Association’s immediate past executives, Mr. Ilori and Mr. Segun Adewunmi, as well as the Project Manager of the Anchor Borrowers Programme, to appear before the lawmakers on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
They are expected to explain issues related to how the now-defunct Anchor Borrowers Programme was carried out in the State.
The Assembly began investigating after receiving complaints from victims whose personal funds were illegally deducted by Wema Bank, even though they did not benefit from the programme.
At a meeting held on Wednesday at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Committee directed Wema Bank Plc to provide a detailed report on all disbursements made under the programme. The report must include a list of service providers, the total funds released, and supporting documents.
During the meeting, which was attended by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Bolu Owootomo, the Committee also told the bank to contact the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and copy its Abeokuta branch to provide a verified list of all programme beneficiaries to the Assembly for further review.
Hon. Owode added that the Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption would work together with the Agriculture Committee during the investigation since it involves the use of public funds.
