Ogun police command this morning disrupted attempt by Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Rural Development to use the International market in Owode Yewa, Ogun State for the installation ceremony of the chieftaincy title of ‘Otunba Fiwagboye conferred on him by the Olu Of Owodeland, Oba Dr. Rev. Mathew Sunday Akindele, was scuttled today as officers of the Nigeria Police force stormed the center, barricading entrance to the venue in the early hours of the morning.
According to Vanguard’s account, though the event was later shifted to the Owode Town Hall but before it started the venue was invaded again by the Police, led by the Area Commander, Titus Musa of the Ilaro Area Command, citing an “Order from Above”.
The political landscape of the State has been in fiery mode between aspirants who have declared their intention to contest for the Governorship position of the state come 2019 and Gov. Amosun who is hell bent on installing his own person.
Some weeks back, Senator Yayi Olamilekan representing Lagos West Senatorial district but rumoured to be eyeing the top seat in Ogun State had his house in Ilaro marked for demolition. In January, Governor Amosun sacked his Special Assistant on News Media, Damilola Ogunpola on allegation of having close relationship with the Senator.
Political observers in Ogun State are of the view that Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s latest move to prevent Adebutu’s chieftaincy might not be unconnected to the rising political profile of the latter, especially in the Ogun West senatorial district where it was also rumoured that the Ogun State governor is banking on to strengthen the political profile of his surrogate.
