During the 5th annual symposium organized by the Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum, the acting controller of Ogun Area 1 Command of Nigeria Customs Service, Ahmadu Shuaibu, spoke about the ongoing battle against smugglers operating around the border communities in the state.
The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized goods worth N1.5 billion from smugglers between January and September this year alone.
Shuaibu stressed the need to put an end to the smuggling and hoarding of petroleum products, as they have adverse effects on border communities and national security. He urged all stakeholders, especially the youths of the border communities, to join forces with the command in the enlightenment campaigns aimed at overcoming the menace of smuggling in the area.
Furthermore, Shuaibu expressed grave concern over the high rate of avoidable deaths of officers and members of host border communities due to smuggling. He called on all Nigerians to take responsibility for the security and development of the nation, emphasizing the need for a collective effort towards tackling this issue.
This move would not only ensure the safety of the nation’s borders but also contribute to the overall growth and development of the country. The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) remains committed to its duty of safeguarding the borders and ensuring that smugglers are brought to justice.
